Tableau Software

Key to effective business intelligence: Story your data and understand it!

Services: | Dashboarding |

Description: This is a Tableau Dashboard made using the Superstore Sales Dataset. This is a fictional dataset that simulates real-world information utilized for business intelligence and performance tracking.

Background:
This dashboard provides efficient, interactive data charts and tools to help assess the health of this company using business intelligence data. It also provides context on financial growth and strategic decision making through its trends analyses. This example showcases the importance of data cleaning, data schemas, analytics, and generating meaningful user design elements. This is especially important when we’re telling data stories. Note: For best viewing and interactivity, please click the bottom left button, “View On Tableau Public.”

Dashboard Info:
The navigation menu is on the left-hand side. You can minimize or expand it as needed to help with chart viewing. In addition, the filter bar on the right can also be hidden. When you click on the Dashboard Views button you’ll be able to select from the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or the Trends Analysis pages. Each page will have unique and meaningful charts to view and interact with. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out via our contact page. In future updates, I hope to add the final selection “Data Exploration and Outcomes.”

Interactivity:
1). For the KPI page, the data has several years that can be filtered. “All” are selected by default. You can also change the measures and dimensions with the filter options. Play around with it! Don’t forget that if you highlight some of the charts, you have context filters that also affect the other charts. This helps with further insight analytics.

2). Additionally, you can use “CTRL + mouse click” to highlight numerous bars or figures in the chart to help with nuanced breakdowns. If you need to reset your view back to normal, click the Reset view button on the Tableau bottom ribbon.

3). For the Trends Analysis page, you’ll be able to compare the data between the current selected year and the previous year. There’s specific charts on profit margins, sale comparisons, and changes over time with the business’s overall financials. You can select particular products and see how the trends have changed over time.
